The position of President of the BAL APWU shall be a full time local union position. He or she shall also serve as Executive Shop Steward. It shall be the duty of the President to have charge of the general welfare of the local and to promote its interest in such ways as seems to his or her advisable or as he or she may be directed by the Membership and/or Executive Board. He or she shall preside at all meetings of the General Assembly, General Council, and Executive Board and shall be govern by Robert’s Rule Of Order, Newly revised, in all cases, to which they are applicable and which they are not in conflict with the constitution and by laws. He or she shall appoint all committees not specifically appointed on motion in the general assembly. He or she shall be a member of all committees. The President, by virtue of his or her office, shall be a delegate to all conventions, seminars, conferences, etc., called by organizations with which this union is affiliated.
The Director Of Legislation shall be responsible for contacting, by mail, Congressmen and Senators concerning Legislation of interest to members and their families. He or she shall formulate a program to assist members in contacting their representatives. He or she shall be a member of the executive board. His or her expenses shall be subject to approval of the executive board. His or her salary shall be $125.00 per month salary. He or she shall be elected by the general membership. He or she shall submit an article quarterly for the Birmingham Area Local 303 News and give a Legislative report at each union meeting. The Legislative Director shall sponsor at least two (2) COPA events per year and be a delegate to the Alabama AFL-CIO and the Birmingham Labor council meetings.
